Robert Karsunky, Chief Financial Officer
Robert Karsunky is Chief Financial Officer of Alcon and a member of the Executive Committee of Alcon.
Mr. Karsunky joined Alcon in November 2010 and brings broad global experience in finance having had leadership roles with three of the world’s leading health care companies. Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer of the Consumer Health Division of Novartis. In this role, he was responsible for the division’s finance, information technologies, procurement and merger and acquisition activities.
Prior to joining Novartis in 2006, Mr. Karsunky served as Vice President of Finance for the international division of Medtronic, Inc. During his four year tenure with Medtronic, his responsibilities included leading Medtronic’s finance, tax, treasury, information technology, business development, supply chain and customer services activities outside the United States. Mr. Karsunky began his career with Eli Lilly in 1991 where he had a variety of financial positions of increasing responsibility in Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States.
Mr. Karsunky is a German citizen, born and raised in Madrid, Spain. He studied business administration at the University of Cologne and New York University, and obtained a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Aachen in Germany.
Kevin Buehler, Division Head Alcon
Kevin Buehler is Division Head, Alcon, since the merger of Alcon into Novartis in April 2011. He is a member of the Executive Committee of Novartis.
Mr. Buehler was President and Chief Executive Officer of Alcon from 2009 to 2011. Mr. Buehler began his career with Alcon in 1984 as Regional Sales Manager in the Consumer Products Division, holding positions of increasing responsibility before being named Director of Sales and Marketing. In 1996, he became Director of the Alcon U.S. Managed Care and Falcon Generic Pharmaceutical groups, and became Vice President in 1998. The following year he returned to the U.S. Consumer Products Division as Vice President and General Manager.
Mr. Buehler moved to the International Division in 2002 as Vice President and Regional Manager, Latin America and Caribbean. He was later named Area Vice President, Latin America, Canada, Australia and Far East. Mr. Buehler also served as Senior Vice President, Global Markets and Chief Marketing Officer. Prior to joining Alcon, he worked for The Gillette Company and Snyder Drug Stores.
Mr. Buehler holds a Bachelor of Science from Carroll University in Waukesha, WI, with concentrations in business administration and political science. He completed the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School in 1993.
Sabri Markabi, Senior Vice President Research & Development and Chief Medical
Sabri Markabi, M.D., is the Senior Vice President of Research and Development and Chief Medical Officer at Alcon. He is a member of the Executive Committee of Novartis.
Dr. Markabi joined Alcon in his current role in March 2008. Dr. Markabi began his career as a neurologist on the faculty of the University Hospital in Tours, France. In 1991, he joined Ciba-Geigy in clinical research and assumed positions of increasing responsibilities in France, Switzerland and New Jersey leading to the position of Global Head of Clinical Research, Neurosciences for Novartis. In 2004, he was appointed Vice President, Global Head of Development for the ophthalmic business unit.
Dr. Markabi completed his medical training in France and obtained the specialty certification in neurology, with additional qualifications in pharmacology from the University of Paris, France. He holds an M.D. degree from the University of Damascus, Syria.
