UK Coal Plc is engaged in the production and supply of coal and generates electricity. The company operates through four segments: Deep Mining, Surface Mining, Property and Other. The Deep Mining segment has three ongoing operating deep mines in central and northern England. The Surface Mining segment develops, operates and then restores surface mines across north and central England. The Property segment operates its methane generation activities in which electricity is generated from mines methane at both operating and closed sites. The Other segment includes any operations not controlled by the mining or property businesses. UK Coal was founded in 1974 and is headquartered in Doncaster, the United Kingdom.
