Ashok Leyland Ltd. manufactures commercial vehicles and spare parts in India and Internationally. It is principally engaged in a single business segment: Commercial Vehicles and Related Components. The company manufactures medium and heavy commercial vehicles, including buses, such as city, sub-urban, inter-city, school and staff, and special buses; trucks for various applications, including long-hauls, distribution, construction, and mining; light vehicles; and defense vehicles designs, develops and manufactures specialized Defense vehicles for the armed forces and other international customers. It also offers complete power solutions by supplying engines for a variety of applications apart from vehicles, such as engines for running generator sets, marine applications, powering earth-moving equipment, compressors, cranes, and harvester combines under the brand name Leypower. The company was founded by Raghunandan Saran on September 7, 1948 and is headquartered in Chennai, India.

Dheeraj G. Hinduja, Chairman
Mr. Dheeraj G. Hinduja holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Economics & History from the University College, London, 1993. He has completed his Masters in Business Administration with specialization in Project Management from the Imperial College, London University, 1994. Dheeraj is a third generation member of the Hinduja Family, who owns and runs the Hinduja Group, with diversified business interests all over the world. Employing over 50,000 people, the Hinduja Group’s portfolio includes Global Investments, Investment Banking and International Trading. He has over seventeen years of experience at strategic and leadership levels covering a variety of businesses across diverse sectors such as Automotives, Energy, Infrastructure, Finance & Banking, IT & ITES, Media and Healthcare. He has been leading the Human Resources Function for the entire Group – driving an agenda of transformation, through talent acquisition, engagement, retention and development strategies. Currently, Dheeraj is focusing on the Group’s Indian Businesses, which have a diversified portfolio of organizations with Ashok Leyland as the flagship company. As Director of Hinduja Group India, he is setting and driving an aggressive growth agenda for all Indian entities. He is leading a corporate team to develop strategy for enhancing Group Portfolio and exploring new opportunities & markets and to oversee investments. As Chairman of Ashok Leyland, he is particularly overseeing corporate strategy for quantum growth, M&A activities and the charter of HR issues & initiatives. Dheeraj is active on the Board of Hinduja Foundries, the largest jobbing foundry in India. He is also on the board of Hinduja Global Solutions. As Co-Chairman of Hinduja Automotive Limited (formerly LRLIH Ltd), Dheeraj’s focus continues to be on the expansion on the Group’s automotive activities with a special focus on acquisitions and Joint Ventures. Dheeraj is also a non-executive Director of many Group Companies.
R. Seshasayee, Non-Executive Vice Chairman
Mr. R. Seshasayee is the Executive Vice Chairman of Ashok Leyland after having been its Managing Director of Ashok Leyland for 13 years till 2011. He has led the Company’s transformation into a globally competitive technology leader seeking growth through globalisation and diversification, via global acquisitions and joint ventures with Nissan Motor Company, John Deere, Continental AG and the Alteams Group, to name a few. He is also the Chairman of Indusind Bank Limited. Mr. Seshasayee was the Chairman of Southern Region Council of CII, in 1994. He served as the President of CII during 2006-07. He was the President of Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the apex body representing the Indian automobile industry during 2001-03. As a member of Government of India delegations, Seshasayee was a participant at the Doha Ministerial Round of WTO in 2001 and the Hong Kong Ministerial at Hong Kong in 2005. Seshasayee was also the Co-chair of the World Economic Forum - Middle East during 2007. Mr. Seshasayee is the Chairman of the Executive Council of the Cancer Institute, Chennai; President of Schizophrenia Research Foundation (SCARF) and Vice President of the Music Academy.

Vinod K. Dasari , Managing Director
Mr Vinod K. Dasari is the Managing Director of Ashok Leyland Limited and Director on the Board of Ashok Leyland. As MD, has overall responsibility for the Company’s operations. Vinod completed his MBA from Kellogg School of Management and a Masters in Engineering Management from McCormick School of Engineering, both from Northwestern University. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from University of Louisville. Vinod commenced his career with the General Electric Company in 1986. After completing his MBA in 1992, he joined the Timken Company, USA as Senior Business Analyst, and then moved to Timken’s Indian operations as Director of Manufacturing and Technology. In 1998, he was appointed Managing Director of Timken India and in 2000, he moved back to US, with Timken, as President of the Global Railroad business. In 2002, he moved back to India with family and joined Cummins as Joint Managing Director. Vinod joined Ashok Leyland in 2005 as Chief Operating Officer. Vinod also serves on the Boards of Ashok Leyland UAE LLC, Lanka Ashok Leyland PLC, Ashok Leyland Defence Systems Limited, Ashok Leyland Nissan Vehicles Limited, Nissan Ashok Leyland Technologies Limited, Nissan Ashok Leyland Powertrain Limited, and Ashley Aviation Limited. Vinod is married to Sarita, a doctor with a specialization in Nephrology and Hypertension. They have two sons Vishal and Sanjay, aged 20 and 17. Vinod enjoys cricket, movies and golf.
Anuj Kathuria, Executive Director Strategic Sourcing
An Engineering Graduate from BITS and an MBA from XLRI, Jamshedpur, Mr. Khaturia brings with him years of rich experience having handled a whole gamut of functions including Manufacturing, Sourcing, Mergers and Acquisitions and Program Management. He has also had an overseas stint for two years as head of global sourcing. With the Company since 2010, he heads Strategic Sourcing and is responsible for the entire supply chain activities.
Anup Bhat, Executive Director Manufacturing
A metallurgist, Mr. Bhat joined the Company in 2000 after having put in 22 years covering various areas of Manufacturing, Product Development, Quality, HR and IR (Industrial Relations). In Ashok Leyland, he spent his first five years managing the three manufacturing plants at Hosur, post which he spearheaded the Strategic Sourcing function. Since 2010, he has been assigned a new role of managing all the seven manufacturing plants of the Company. He is also a Fulbright Fellow from the Carnegie Melon University, USA.
B. Venkat Subramaniam, Executive Director Strategic Allied Business Initiatives
A Mechanical engineer with a PGDBM (IIMB), Mr. Venkat Subramaniam has over 25 years of varied experience in the auto-component and automotive industry. He has held senior positions in Marketing, Business Planning, Product Management, Exports, Aftermarket and Programme Management. Having joined Ashok Leyland in 2003, he has contributed to several important marketing initiatives, product development and launches.
C. G. Belsare, Executive Director Power Solutions Business
Having joined the Company in 2006, with a BE (Mechanical) from Pune University, Mr. Belsare brings with him over 31 years’ experience in diesel engines and lighting industries. Prior to Ashok Leyland, he has held senior positions in Manufacturing, Engine Development, Project Planning, Parts Business, Strategic Sourcing and Marketing. He also has successfully completed several international assignments for business and sourcing development.
Gopal Mahadevan, Chief Financial Officer
Mr Gopal Mahadevan is a Chartered Accountant and a Company Secretary with 25 years’ experience in Finance across a variety of industries. Having started his career with the TTK Group, he had stints with the Sanmar Group, Sify and Amara Raja Batteries. His immediate prior assignment was with Thermax as CFO. Mr Mahadevan has won the Best CFO Award (Capital Goods & Engineering Industry) by CNBC TV18 in 2012, the Best CFO Award (Capital Goods & Engineering Industry) by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 2011 and the Best CFO by YES Bank Business Today in 2010 for CSR.
N. V. Balachandar, Executive Director Human Resources
Mr. Balachander brings with him over 20 years of rich experience in the field of HR that includes considerable stints with the Taj Group of Hotels, where he started his career and the Aditya Birla Group. Mr. Balachandar is an accomplished trainer certified by the National Training Laboratory of the US and has extensive experience in Organizational Re-structuring for business growth. Associated with many HR industry bodies, he has also been recognized as the Outstanding HR Professional for two consecutive years.
Nitin Seth, Executive Director LCV Sales and Marketing and Defence Business
Leading the team of Ashok Leyland’s venture into the Light Vehicle segment with Nissan, Mr. Seth has over two decades’ experience in the automotive industry in the realms of sales and marketing. Prior to joining Ashok Leyland, he has held key leadership positions and is an alumnus of BITS Pilani and a recipient of the Fulbright – CII Fellowship.
Per Gustav Nilsson, Executive Director International Operations
Born in Sweden and holding degrees in Business Administration, Political Sciences and Social Sciences, Mr. Nilsson brings with him rich global experience and market knowledge having handled international assignments with leading commercial vehicle manufacturers. He joined the Company in 2010 and has among his various achievements of being one of the founders and first Principal of the Higher School of Business, National Lois University (NLU) – the business school arm of NLU in Europe.
Rajive Saharia, Executive Director Marketing
A BE (Mechanical) from Mumbai University, Mr. Saharia joined the Company in 2007 and brings with him considerable experience in the automotive sector having held senior positions in leading organizations both in India and overseas.
R.R.G. Menon, Executive Director Value Engineering and Global Sourcing
A Mechanical Engineer from REC Suratkal, Mr. Menon joined Ashok Leyland as a Graduate Engineer Trainee in 1978 in the Product Development Department and has worked in various PD functions like Pilot Production, Transmission (Gearbox, Clutch, Axles, etc.), Vehicle Testing, Homologation, CMVR and Vehicle Exports. In 2008, he was elevated to head the Company’s Product Development and has been instrumental in integrating the entire R&D activities under one roof.
Sam Burman, Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Burman joins the Company bringing with him over 30 years of experience in the global truck and bus industry in various capacities across Europe, South America, China, Australia, South Africa and the USA. Prior to joining Ashok Leyland, Mr Burman was with IVECO, Italy, as Senior Vice President for medium and heavy trucks. Born in Sweden, Mr Burman is a Mechanical Engineer and will be responsible for the Product Development, Advanced Engineering and Product Planning functions.
Sundar Rajan, Executive Director Legal
Sundar Rajan brings with him more than 20 years’ of experience in his chosen field across diverse functions in reputed companies. A Bachelor of Law from the University of Madras, he started his career as an advocate and has practiced in the Madras High Court. Aged 46, he has handled critical assignments in the areas of Mergers & Acquisitions, Joint Ventures, Corporate Governance – Compliance & Process Improvements, Risk Management, Commercial & Business Agreements, etc. Through his networking with industry forums, he has been instrumental in leading discussions/developing proactive practices in the GATT round of negotiations with reference to ‘Services’, formulation of Cyber Laws and Data Protection Act. Mr. Rajan has also been profiled by the prestigious Global Counsel Magazine (London).
