BNP Paribas SA is engaged in the provision of banking and financial services. It operates through the following segments: Retail Banking, Investment Solutions, and Corporate and Investment Banking. The Retail Banking segment includes the operation of the company's retail banks in France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg and other countries outside Europe; personal finance; equipment solutions; and personal investors. The Investment Solutions segment involves asset management, private banking, and securities, insurance and real estate services. The Corporate and Investment Banking segment provides fixed, corporate and structures finance services, equity and commodity derivative products, and corporate and transaction banking. The company was founded on May 26, 1966 and is headquartered in Paris, France.

Jean-Laurent Bonnafé, Director and Chief Executive Officer
Education
Jean-Laurent Bonnafé studied at two French universities, Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole des Mines, from where he graduated in engineering.
Civil Service Career
Following his education, Mr Bonnafé joined the French civil service and worked firstly as a Senior Officer in the French Ministry of Industry and subsequently as Technical Advisor to the Minister at the French Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Banking Career
Jean-Laurent Bonnafé joined BNP as a Senior Investment Banker in 1994 and in 1997 was appointed Head of Strategy and Development. Mr Bonnafé led the post-merger and integration organisation for BNP Paribas following the merger with Paribas in 2000.
Jean-Laurent Bonnafé was made a member of the BNP Paribas Executive Committee in 2002 and at the same time was appointed Head of French Retail Banking for the Group. He was appointed Managing Director of BNL in 2006 following the merger with the BNP Paribas Group. In 2008, he was made Chief Operating Officer for BNP Paribas and appointed Head of the Group’s Retail Banking activities.
Jean-Laurent Bonnafé was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Fortis Bank on 14 May 2009, until 1st February 2011 to ensure the integration process between BNP Paribas and Fortis.
Present
At the Annual General Meeting held on 12 May 2010, Jean-Laurent Bonnafé was elected a Member of the Board of Directors of the BNP Paribas Group. Furthermore, he is a Director of BNP Paribas Personal Finance, BNL, BNP Paribas Fortis and Carrefour.
Jean-Laurent Bonnafé was appointed as Chief Executive Officer on 1st December 2011 by the Board of Directors.
F. Villeroy de Galhau, Chief Operating Officer
Education
François Villeroy de Galhau is a graduate of the École Polytechnique and l’ENA (National School of Public Administration).
Early Career in the Civil Service
François Villeroy de Galhau began his career as Senior Auditor at the French Treasury (1984-1988). He served as European Advisor to Pierre Bérégovoy (1990-1993) when the latter was Prime Minister. He held various positions at the Treasury Directorate (1993-96), before being appointed Financial Advisor in Brussels. In this role, he participated in the creation of the euro. Subsequently, he became Head of Cabinet under Dominique Strauss-Kahn (1997-1999) and then under Christian Sautter (1999-2000) at the Ministry of the Economy and Finance. He then held the post of Director-General of Taxes (2000-2003).
Banking Career
In 2003, François Villeroy de Galhau became CEO of Cetelem, the consumer credit subsidiary of the BNP Paribas Group. After the merger of Cetelem and UCB, he became CEO of BNP Paribas Personal Finance (2007), and then Head of French Retail Banking (FRB), and took a seat on BNP Paribas’ executive committee (2008). He has said that he likes the good mix of ethics and ambition within the Group.
François Villeroy de Galhau was appointed as Chief Operating Officer on 1st December 2011.
Commitments
François Villeroy de Galhau is on the board of directors of ADIE, a business development association. He is a member of the Commission pour la liberation de la croissance française (a commission in charge of analysing the brakes on growth in the French economy) which was chaired by Jacques Attali in 2007 and in 2010. François Villeroy de Galhau is on the supervisory board of the Bayard Presse Group and of Villeroy & Boch AG (Sarre).

François Villeroy de Galhau was born on 24 February 1959 in Strasbourg and has five children. He has strong roots in the regions of Sarre and Lorraine and supports Europe’s cross-border heritage.
He was a lecturer in Economics at Sciences Po Paris (school of political science) from 1996 to2005.

G. Chodron de Courcel, Chief Operating Officer
Education and Early Career
Georges Chodron de Courcel graduated from the engineering school, Ecole Centrale Paris, in 1971, and obtained a BSc degree in Economics in 1972. He immediately began his banking career at the Banque Nationale de Paris (BNP) where he held various positions.
Banking Career
After having worked six years in Corporate Banking, Georges Chodron de Courcel was appointed Head of Equity Research in 1978 and then Head of Asset Management. In 1982 he became General Secretary of Banexi, a subsidiary of BNP.
In 1989, he became Director of Corporate Finance and Chairman of Banexi. He was then appointed Head of French Retail Banking at BNP in 1990.
In January 1991, he became Head of Capital Markets and then Deputy Managing Director in 1995. After being appointed Chief Executive International and Finance in 1996, he assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer of BNP between 1996 and 1999.
Since the Creation of BNP Paribas
After the creation of the BNP Paribas Group in August 1999, he was made a member of the Executive Committee and Head of Corporate & Investment Banking of BNP Paribas.
Georges Chodron de Courcel has been Chief Operating Officer of BNP Paribas since June 2003, and oversees Corporate & Investment Banking and Investment Solutions.
