Suncor Energy, Inc. is an integrated energy company, which develops petroleum resource basins. It explores, acquires, develops, produces and markets crude oil and natural gas in Canada and internationally. Suncor Energy, through its Petro-Canada brand, provides oil sands development & upgrading, conventional & offshore oil and gas production, petroleum refining and product marketing. The company operates its business through the following segments: Oil Sands, Exploration & Production and Refining & Marketing. The Oil Sands segment recovers and upgrades bitumen from mining and in situ operations into synthetic crude oil for refinery feedstock and diesel fuel. The Exploration & Production segment engages in the exploration and production of natural gas, crude oil and natural gas liquids. The Refining & Marketing segment refines, distributes and markets crude oil products and other purchased products through retail stations located in Canada and the United States. Its business roots back to August 22, 1979 when Sun Oil Co. Ltd. and Great Canadian Oil Sands Ltd. have merged together. The company was founded on August 1, 2009 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.

Steve Williams, President and Chief Executive Officer
Steve’s career with Suncor began in May 2002 when he was appointed executive vice-president, Corporate Development and chief financial officer. He has also served as executive vice-president, Oil Sands where he was responsible for leading Suncor’s oil sands operation through its next stage of growth. He has served as chief operating officer of Suncor Energy since 2007 and was appointed president and a member of Suncor’s Board of Directors on Dec. 1, 2011. He became president and chief executive officer on May 1, 2012.
Steve has 35 years of international energy industry experience in the areas of strategy development, company performance improvement, and refinery and chemical company management. He has also provided leadership in the areas of environment, health and safety, finance, sales and marketing, human resources, and information technology. Before his appointment to Suncor, Steve was responsible for Octel Corporation's global operation. He also managed the operation of the largest refinery in the United Kingdom for Esso.
Steve is a fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and is a member of the Institute of Directors. He is also co-chair of the Oil Sands Leadership Initiative (OSLI); a member of the CEO Committee of Syncrude Canada Limited; and a member of the Alberta School of Business Advisory Council, at the University of Alberta. In October 2010 he was appointed to the Alberta Government Oil and Gas Economics Advisory Council.
Steve holds a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Exeter University and is a graduate of the advanced management program at Harvard Business School as well as the business economics program at Oxford University.
Bart Demosky, Chief Financial Officer
As chief financial officer, Bart Demosky directs financial operations, including investor relations and treasury and plays a key role in ensuring Suncor has the financial strength necessary to support the new company's significant growth potential.
Bart’s career with Suncor began in 2006, when he was appointed vice president and treasurer. Most recently, Bart was senior vice president, Business Services with Suncor, responsible for enterprise-wide business services and integration of technology and processes, including supply chain management.
Bart has over 20 years of industry experience in strategy and development, finance, risk management and energy supply and trading. He has also provided leadership in the areas of merger integration, energy market deregulation and as a board member for not-for-profit organizations.
Bart holds a bachelors degree in economics from the University of Calgary and is an honours graduate from the University of Calgary Management Development Program. He was awarded the gold medal for academic achievement from the Institute of Canadian Bankers upon achieving Associate status.
Janice Odegaard, Senior Vice-President and General Counsel
Janice Odegaard was appointed senior vice-president and general counsel in December 2010. In this role, Janice is responsible for all legal matters across the company and works closely with Suncor’s Board of Directors on matters of corporate governance.
Janice joined Suncor in July 1995 and has held a number of senior positions within the company including vice-president, project services in the Major Projects group, which handles engineering, procurement and construction for Suncor’s growth initiatives, and most recently, vice-president, corporate legal affairs. She is also Suncor’s chief privacy officer, chief compliance officer and corporate secretary.
Prior to joining Suncor, Janice was a partner of the Calgary-based law firm Atkinson McMahon (now known as Field LLP), focusing on corporate law, mergers, acquisitions and securities law.
Janice is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Alberta and the Calgary Bar Association, and has lectured on various aspects of law for the Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Bar Association and other groups. She is past president of the Calgary Bar Association’s securities section, and served as a member of the board of directors of the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre. In 2005, Janice was elected a director of the Board of the Legal Education Society of Alberta, a non-profit organization that provides continuing education for legal professionals in the province, and served a five-year term that concluded in 2011. She is currently on the advisory board of Lilith Professional, an organization that provides mentoring programs for professional women, and has served multiple times as a program mentor.
Janice holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics from Brandon University and a law degree (LL.B.) from the University of Calgary. She earned numerous academic awards including the Governor General’s Gold Medal.
