The Infrastructures segment builds and operates large natural gas transport infrastructures, regasification terminals, and distribution networks. The Energy Services segment provides comprehensive multi-technical service packages, engineering, urban heat and cooling network management, design, construction, and operation of industrial and tertiary energy facilities. The SUEZ Environnement segment offers water, sanitation, and waste management services. It also provides water treatment engineering and manages storage activities. The company was founded on April 8, 1946 and is headquartered in Courbevoie, France.

On Tuesday, October 9, 2012, Gérard Mestrallet, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GDF SUEZ, and Xavier Trias, Mayor of the city of Barcelona, Spain, signed a strategic partnership in regard to the city of tomorrow. This agreement follows suit to the "City Protocol", an initiative launched by the city of Barcelona last July, to establish a model of excellence and reference in terms of developing solutions for sustainable cities projects.
