Executives

Peter Arthur, Chairman
Peter Arthur (chairman) qualified as a solicitor and chartered secretary and was for five years an executive director of ISIS Asset Management plc until its acquisition of F & C Asset Management Limited in October 2004 where most recently he was managing director with responsibility for the group’s investment trust and institutional businesses. Prior to this, he was chief legal counsel, Europe for Franklin Templeton Global Investors Ltd. He had previously served 14 years with Edinburgh Fund Managers plc, latterly as joint managing director. He is a non executive director of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) and a director of Proven Health VCT PLC.
Andrey Berzins, Audit Committee Chairman
Andrey Berzins qualified as a chartered accountant in England, and worked for KPMG in Hong Kong. In 1989 he joined the Suez Group’s Asian private equity division, becoming a Managing Director in 2002. He has been resident in Asia since 1984 and a Singapore resident since 1996. Over the past 20+ years he has been involved in numerous Asian private equity transactions covering a variety of industries and countries. He also holds several directorships of private equity-backed companies and is a director of Cubit Long/Short Commodity Fund.
Duncan Baxter, Non-Executive Director
Duncan Baxter is a senior banker with 25 years’ experience of international banking, latterly as managing director of Swiss Bank Corporation in Jersey. He is a Jersey resident and is currently a director of AiM-listed Highland Gold Mining Limited. He also holds several non-executive-directorships, including Alternative Investment Strategies Limited.
Charles Clarke, Non-Executive Director
Charles was appointed to the Board on 29 March 2012 and is a Jersey residentially-qualified graduate chartered accountant and former senior partner of KPMG in the Channel Islands who had previously worked for KPMG in Kuala Lumpur. He is a non-executive director of a number of companies including SG Hambros Bank Limited where he is chairman of the audit committee and Phoenix Group Holdings where he is a member of the audit and investment committees.
Dr Ana Cukic Armstrong, Non-Executive Director
Ana is a Director of Aberdeen Asian Income Fund Limited. Ana is joint managing partner and heads portfolio strategy and construction at Armstrong Investment Managers. Ana was co-head of Insight Investment’s Multi-Asset group from November 2003 to April 2009. Prior to joining, Insight Ana worked at UBS Wealth Management as Director & Head of Portfolio Construction for the UBS Managed Accounts program where she managed circa EUR 4 billion. Ana also worked at Fischer Francis as fixed income and futures trader. She began her career at Coutts as an investment analyst. Ana holds a PhD in Quantitative Economics and an MBA in Finance from Imperial College, London.
Hugh Young , Non-Executive Director
"Hugh was appointed to the Board on 22 March 2011. Hugh Young is managing director of Aberdeen Asset Management Asia Limited, the Aberdeen Group’s regional HQ and group head of equities as well as a member of the executive committee responsible for the Aberdeen Group’s day-to-day running. He co-founded Singapore-based Aberdeen Asia in 1992, having been recruited in 1985 to manage Asian equities from London. Since then he has built the company into one of the largest managers of such assets globally. Singapore employs over 150 staff, while there are 65 investment managers stationed across the region, with offices also in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand over which Hugh is in overall charge.
