Charles R. Sims, FCA, President and Chief Executive Officer
Charles R. Sims, FCA was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Mackenzie Inc. and Mackenzie Financial Corporation in March 2005 and Co-President and Chief Executive Officer of IGM Financial Inc. in May 2005. A Toronto native, Mr. Sims started his career in 1984 with Coopers and Lybrand. He joined Franklin Templeton’s Canadian operations in 1989, and over the next eight years held a variety of leadership positions, including Chief Financial Officer and Head of Sales and Marketing. In 1997 he moved to the company's international head office in San Mateo, California, where he assumed the role of Vice-President, Finance of the parent company Franklin Resources, Inc., and then Chief Administrative Officer, Global Distribution from 2002 to 2005. In addition to finance, sales and marketing, he has extensive experience in operations, product development and strategy in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia and was responsible for establishing the firm’s investment business in China. Mr. Sims is active in the Canadian fund industry. He was a member of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) Board of Directors from 1993 to 1996. Since October 2010, he is serving as IFIC’s Chairperson. He is also a member of the Leadership Council of the Toronto Financial Services Alliance. He has also served on the Board of Directors of FundSERV Inc. He is a director of Mackenzie Financial Corporation, Mackenzie Inc., IGM Financial Inc., and Putnam Investments. Mr. Sims serves on the Foundation Board of Holland Bloorview Hospital and Upper Canada College Foundation Board of Trustees. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts degree, he is also a Fellow Chartered Accountant and a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Geoffrey D. Creighton, Senior VP, General Counsel, Secretary & Chief Compliance Officer
Geoffrey D. Creighton is Senior Vice-President, General Counsel and Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer for IGM Financial Inc. Geoff is responsible for overseeing the legal, compliance and corporate secretarial functions of Mackenzie, Investors Group and Investment Planning Counsel. Prior to joining IGM in 2008, Geoff was a senior corporate partner with Torys LLP. His experience includes mergers and acquisitions, complex corporate finance and cross-border securities transactions, and litigation. Geoff has managed legal services for numerous large projects involving publicly listed companies in capital markets. In the area of governance, Geoff has drafted mandates and codes of conduct for boards and board committees, advised special committees and dealt with sensitive disclosure issues. A graduate of the University of Western Ontario (B.A.) and the University of Toronto (LL.B), Geoff was called to the Bar in 1982. In a voluntary capacity, he has chaired and served on several committees of the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association, and for twenty years was Ontario Editor of the Canadian Bar Review.
Tony Elavia, Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer

Tony Elavia, PhD, is Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Mackenzie Financial Corporation, responsible for overseeing all of the company's investment management teams. Tony has 25 years of industry experience. He possesses a broad, deep investment management background for both retail and institutional clients in the U.S. and also in Canada. His key areas of expertise include growth equity management, asset allocation and quantitative modeling. Previous to Mackenzie, Tony held progressively senior positions, including CIO and CEO at a U.S.-based insurance company subsidiary, and leadership roles at three asset management firms in the U.S. Tony earned his PhD in Economics from the University of Houston and an MA in Economics from the University of Baroda in India.
Edward L. Merchand, Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer
Edward L. Merchand is Senior Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of Mackenzie Financial Corporation. His current areas of responsibility include corporate accounting, financial reporting, taxation, business planning and purchasing. Ed joined M.R.S. Trust in 1992 as Vice-President, Finance and in 1998 he moved to Mackenzie’s finance department. He assumed his current position in June 2002. Ed graduated from Carleton University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Commerce and then joined the public accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant.
