Loews Corp. is a diversified holding company. The company operates through its subsidiaries CNA Financial Corp., which operates in four segments: CNA Specialty, CNA Commercial, Life and Group Non-Core and Other. The CNA Specialty segment provides a broad array of professional, financial and specialty property and casualty products and services, primarily through insurance brokers and managing general underwriters. The CNA Commercial segment includes property and casualty coverage sold to small businesses and middle market entities and organizations primarily through an independent agency distribution system. This segment also includes commercial insurance and risk management products sold to large corporations primarily through insurance brokers. The Life and Group Non-Core segment primarily includes the life and group lines of business that are in run-off; Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc., which owns and operates offshore drilling rigs that are chartered on a contract basis for fixed terms by companies engaged in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons; Boardwalk Pipeline Partners LP, which is engaged in the interstate transportation and storage of natural gas and natural gas liquids and gathering and processing of natural gas; HighMount Exploration & Production LLC, which is engaged in the exploration, production and marketing of natural gas and oil, including condensate and natural gas liquids, primarily located in the Permian Basin in West Texas, as well as in the Oklahoma Mississippian Lime and Texas Panhandle regions; and Loews Hotels, which operates a chain of hotels in the U.S. and Canada. The Other segment consist of corporate investment income, corporate interest expense and other unallocated expenses. Loews was founded by Laurence A.
