Waste Connections, Inc. is an integrated solid waste services company, which provides solid waste collection, transfer, disposal and recycling services in mostly exclusive and secondary markets in the United States. The company operates its business through four segments: Western, Central, Eastern, and Exploration and Production (E&P). The Western Region segment is comprised of operating locations in Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and western Wyoming. The Central Region segment is comprised of operating locations in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and eastern Wyoming. The Eastern Region segment is comprised of operating locations in Alabama, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. The E&P Group segment includes E&P waste service operations in Louisiana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Texas, Wyoming and along the Gulf of Mexico. Its solid waste services include residential, commercial, and industrial collection services; landfill disposal services; and recycling services for various recyclable materials, including cardboard, office paper, plastic containers, glass bottles, and ferrous and aluminum metals to residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers. The company also owns and operates transfer stations that receive, compact, and load waste to be transported to landfills or treatment facilities via truck, rail, or barge; and intermodal services, including repositioning, storage, maintenance, and repair of cargo containers for international shipping companies for the rail haul movement of cargo and solid waste containers in the Pacific Northwest through a network of intermodal facilities. Its E&P waste treatment, recovery and disposal services includes treats, recovers, and disposes waste resulting from oil and natural gas exploration and production activity, such as drilling fluids, drill cuttings, completion fluids, and flowback water; production wastes and produced water during a well's operating life; contaminated soils that require treatment during site reclamation; and substances that require clean-up after a spill, reserve pit clean-up, or pipeline rupture. The company also provides container and chassis sales and leasing services to its customers. Waste Connections was founded by Ronald J. Mittelstaedt on September 9, 1997 and is headquartered in Woodlands, TX.
