The company operates business through six segments: Commercial, Public Sector, Radiology Benefits Management, Specialty Pharmaceutical Management, Medicaid Administration and Corporate. The Commercial segment manages behavioral healthcare services and EAP services provided under contracts with health plans and insurance companies for some or all of their commercial, Medicaid and Medicare members, as well as with employers, including corporations, governmental agencies, and labor unions. The Public Sector segment provides services to recipients under Medicaid and other state sponsored programs under contracts with state and local governmental agencies. The Radiology Benefits Management segment manages the delivery of diagnostic imaging services to ensure that such services are clinically appropriate and cost effective. The Specialty Pharmaceutical Management segment comprises of programs that manage specialty drugs used in the treatment of complex conditions such as, cancer, multiple sclerosis, hemophilia, infertility, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic forms of hepatitis and other diseases. The Medicaid Administration segment provides integrated clinical management services to the public sector to manage Medicaid pharmacy, mental health and long-term care programs. The Corporate segment comprises of operational support functions such as sales and marketing and information technology, as well as corporate support functions such as executive, finance, human resources and legal. Magellan Health Services was founded in 1969 and is headquartered in Avon, CT.
