The Timken Co. develops, manufactures, markets and sells engineered bearings, alloy steels, and related components and assemblies. It also manufactures mechanical power transmission components and assemblies and systems, such as helicopter transmissions, alloy steel, bars and tubing to custom specifications. The company's bearing products include cylindrical, spherical, needle and precision ball bearings; and friction management products include lubricants, seals, bearing maintenance tools and condition-monitoring equipment. Timken operates through four segments: Mobile Industries, Process Industries, Aerospace and Defense, and Steel. The Mobile Industries segment provides bearings, mechanical power transmission components, drive- and roller-chains, augers and related products and services to original equipment manufacturers and suppliers of agricultural, construction and mining equipment, passenger cars, light trucks, medium and heavy-duty trucks, rail cars and locomotives, as well as automotive and heavy truck aftermarket distributors. The Process Industries segment provides bearings, mechanical power transmission components, industrial chains, and related products and services to original equipment manufacturers and suppliers of power transmission, energy, and heavy industries machinery and equipment, including rolling mills, cement and aggregate processing equipment, paper mills, sawmills, printing presses, cranes, hoists, drawbridges, wind energy turbines, gear drives, drilling equipment, coal conveyors, coal crushers, marine and food processing equipment. This segment also serves the aftermarket through its global network of authorized industrial distributors. The Aerospace and Defense segment provides bearings, helicopter transmission systems, rotor head assemblies, turbine engine components, gears and other precision flight-critical components for commercial and military aviation applications. It provides aftermarket services, including repair and overhaul of engines, transmissions and fuel controls, and aerospace bearing repair and component reconditioning. This segment also manufactures precision bearings, higher-level assemblies and sensors for manufacturers of health and positioning control equipment. The Steel segment manufactures carbon and alloy steel products, including ingots, bars and tubes. This segment serves the automotive, industrial and energy sectors. Its specialty steel products are used in a variety of end products, including oil country drill pipe, bits and collars, gears, hubs, axles, crankshafts, connecting rods, bearing races and rolling elements, bushings, fuel injectors and wind energy shafts. Timken was founded by Henry Timken in 1899 and is headquartered in Canton, OH.
