D. Scott Davis, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Scott Davis is chairman and chief executive officer of UPS, one of the world's largest publicly-traded logistics companies.
Under Scott's leadership, UPS has made significant improvements in its logistics network as the company has expanded its reach and capabilities through Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Davis has presided over rapid growth in international operations and supply chain and freight.
In 2010, Scott led a strategic transformation of the company's U.S. small package organizational structure. Also, he has overseen UPS's status as a sustainability leader, including improvements in the fuel efficiency of the UPS air and ground fleet, along with the deployment of the industry's largest alternative fuel fleet.
Scott is a leading advocate for increased global trade and export growth. In 2010, he joined the President's Export Council, the principal national advisory committee on international trade. He also is a member of the Business Roundtable. At the end of 2009, he completed a term as chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
In addition to his leadership in public policy, Davis is on the Board of Honeywell International, Inc. He serves as a trustee of the Annie E. Casey Foundation and is a member of The Carter Center Board of Councilors.
Prior to assuming his current position in 2008, Scott was vice chairman and chief financial officer. He has held a variety of other leadership positions at UPS. He joined the UPS Management Committee in 2001.
He joined UPS in 1986 when the company acquired Oregon aviation technology company, II Morrow. He had served as the chief financial officer and then CEO.
A native of Oregon, Davis earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Portland State University.
David Abney, Chief Operating Officer
David Abney leads all operations for UPS, which is a global leader of logistics and the world's largest package delivery company. As chief operating officer, he has responsibility for UPS logistics, sustainability, and engineering.
In these roles, David directs all facets of the UPS transportation network serving more than 220 countries and territories. UPS's global transportation network includes a ground fleet of more than 90,000 vehicles, an air fleet of more than 500 aircraft, and Worldport, UPS's main air hub in Louisville, Kentucky. UPS Airlines also has major hubs in Cologne, Germany, and Shenzhen, China.
Prior to his current position, Abney served as president of UPS International, and he led UPS's strategic imperative to build global logistics capabilities. During his tenure, Abney oversaw many global acquisitions including those of the Fritz Companies, Stolica, Lynxs, and Sino-Trans in China.
He began his UPS career in 1974 as a part-time package loader. Over the years, he held various operational positions. He also served as president of SonicAir, a same-day delivery service that signaled UPS's move into the service parts logistics sector.
In addition to his corporate responsibilities, David is a Trustee of The UPS Foundation, UPS's charitable arm.
He is also a member of the Air Transport Association, the World Affairs Council of Atlanta, and the Coalition of Service Industries, which represents service businesses and seeks to lower barriers to world trade. Abney is a member of the board of directors of Johnson Controls, Inc.
A native of Greenwood, Miss., David received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Delta State University. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Delta State University Alumni Foundation, and he and his wife, Sherry, sponsor an annual symposium on international business at Delta State.
Kurt Kuehn, Chief Financial Officer
Kurt Kuehn, UPS's Chief Financial Officer, has been on the front lines of UPS's transformation from a private U.S.-focused small package delivery company to one of the world's largest publicly-traded logistics companies with more than 398,000 employees.
Today, he is responsible for all activities related to accounting, finance, financial planning, taxes and treasury. He also is the liaison to the investor, finance and analyst community.
Kuehn is a member of the UPS Management Committee, a group of the company's most senior executives who are responsible for the day-to-day management of the company.
Prior to his appointment as CFO in 2008, he was Senior Vice President Worldwide Sales and Marketing, leading the revamping of the sales organization to improve the customer experience around the globe. He was also UPS's first Vice President of Investor Relations, taking the company public in 1999 - the largest IPO in the 20th century. In the subsequent decade, the company dramatically expanded internationally and absorbed more than 40 mergers and acquisitions which expanded UPS's small package delivery capability to include freight forwarding, freight transportation, specialty healthcare logistics capabilities, and supply chain management. Since he joined UPS as a driver in 1977, his UPS career has included leadership roles in sales and marketing, engineering, operations, and strategic cost planning.
He also was one of the early internal supporters of UPS's sustainability program, working on the very first sustainability report in 2002. He remains a member of the Corporate Sustainability Steering Committee.
In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Kuehn serves on the board of directors of the Foundation for Independent Higher Education, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Woodruff Arts Center.
A native of South Bend, Ind., he attended Yale University and received a master's degree in business administration from the University of Miami. He also is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Wharton School of Business.
