Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold, Inc. engages as copper, gold and molybdenum mining company. The company operates through five segments: North America Copper Mines, South America Mining, Indonesia Mining, Africa Mining and Molybdenum Operations. The North America Copper Mines segment has seven operating copper mines in North America-Morenci, Sierrita, Bagdad, Safford and Miami in Arizona and Tyrone and Chino in New Mexico. Its operations include open-pit mining, sulfide ore concentrating, leaching and SX/EW operations. The South America segment has four operating copper mines-Cerro Verde in Peru and Candelaria, Ojos del Salado and El Abra in Chile. Its operations include open-pit and underground mining, sulfide ore concentrating, leaching and SX/EW operations. The Indonesia Mining segment includes PT Freeport Indonesia's Grasberg minerals district. PT Freeport Indonesia produces copper concentrates, which contain significant quantities of gold and silver. The Africa Mining segment includes the Tenke Fungurume copper and cobalt mining concessions in the Katanga province of the DRC. The Tenke Fungurume mine includes open-pit mining, leaching and SX/EW operations. In addition to copper, its mine produces cobalt hydroxide. The Molybdenum segment is an integrated producer of molybdenum, with mining, sulfide ore concentrating, roasting and processing facilities that produce high-purity, molybdenum-based chemicals, molybdenum metal powder and metallurgical products. Freeport McMoran Copper & Gold was founded by James R. Moffett and B. M. Rankin, Jr. on November 10, 1987 and is headquartered in Phoenix, AZ.

Executives

Moffett, James R., Chairman
Mr. Moffett serves as Chairman of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. He also serves as Co-Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of McMoRan Exploration Co.
From 1964 to 1969, Mr. Moffett was a consulting geologist. In 1969, he and two associates founded McMoRan Oil & Gas Co., which developed into one of America's leading independent oil and gas companies. In 1981, Mr. Moffett put together the merger of McMoRan Oil & Gas Co. and Freeport Minerals Company. The merger resulted in the establishment of a new company, Freeport-McMoRan Inc., which became one of the world's leading natural resource companies of which he served as Chairman and CEO from 1984-1997.
Mr. Moffett serves on several boards and has received many awards, including the 1990 Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans Award. In May 2000, he received that Association’s 2000 Norman Vincent Peale Award for his exceptional humanitarian contributions to society. He is also a member of the University of Texas McCombs School of Business Hall of Fame and the American Mining Hall of Fame, Mining Foundation of the Southwest. Mr. Moffett received a Bachelor of Science degree with special honors in Geology from the University of Texas at Austin while on a full football scholarship and a Master of Science degree in Geology from Tulane University. He has also received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Louisiana State University and a Doctor of Financial Economics, Honoris Causa, degree from the University of New Orleans. He has served on the FCX board since 1992.
Adkerson, Richard C., President and Chief Executive Officer
Richard C. Adkerson is the President and Chief Executive Officer and a director of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. He also serves as Co-Chairman of the Board of McMoRan Exploration Co. (MMR).
He graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with highest honors and an MBA degree. In 2010, he recieved an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Mississippi State. He also completed the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School. Prior to joining Freeport-McMoRan in 1989, he was a Partner and Managing Director of Arthur Andersen & Co. where he headed the firm's Worldwide Oil and Gas Industry Practice. From 1976 to 1978, he was a Professional Accounting Fellow with the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. and a Presidential Exchange Executive. Mr. Adkerson currently serves as Chairman of the International Council on Mining and Metals and on the Executive Board of the International Copper Association. He is a member of The Business Council and the Business Roundtable. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Arizona Commerce Authority, Greater Phoenix Leadership and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council. He is a member of the Advisory Council of the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States, the Dean’s Council of 100 for the Arizona State University W. P. Carey School of Business, and serves on the Board of Visitors of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. He has served as President of the Mississippi State University Foundation Board of Directors, chaired its “State of the Future” capital campaign, and serves on the University’s Advisory Board for the College of Business. He was named the Outstanding Accounting Alumnus of Mississippi State University in 1989 and the Outstanding Alumnus of Mississippi State University’s College of Business and Industry in 1991. In each of the past three years, he was named The Best CEO in Metals and Mining by Institutional Investor magazine and was named The Copper Man of the Year 2009 by The Copper Club. He has been a board member since 2006.
Quirk, Kathleen L., Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Ms. Quirk is the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of FCX. She has twenty-one years of experience in the Freeport-McMoRan organization. She has played key roles in FCX’s financings and corporate transactions, and she was Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer prior to the Phelps Dodge transaction. During her career, she has held positions of increasing responsibility in tax, investor relations, treasury and finance. Ms. Quirk is a graduate of Louisiana State University with a B.S. degree in Accounting.
