Bayer AG is engaged in the development, manufacture and distribution of products in the areas of health care, nutrition and high-tech materials. It operates through the Healthcare, Crop Science and Material Science subgroups, which are supported by three service companies. The Healthcare subgroup consists of the Pharmaceuticals and Consumer Health segments. The Pharmaceuticals segment consists of two business units focusing on prescription products: General Medicine, primarily comprising women's healthcare and cardiovascular health products; and Specialty Medicine, comprising medicines that are mainly prescribed by specialist physicians. The Consumer Health segment includes the Consumer Care, Medical Care and Animal Health divisions. The Consumer Care Division focuses on non-prescription medicines, dietary supplements, and dermatology products. The Medical Care division comprises the businesses with blood glucose meters, contrast-enhanced diagnostic imaging equipment together with the necessary contrast agents, and mechanical systems for treating constricted or blocked blood vessels. The Animal Health division manufactures products for livestock and companion animals. The CropScience subgroup consists of two operating segments: Crop Protection / BioScience and Environmental Science. The Crop Protection segment includes herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and seed treatment units, while BioScience focuses on seeds and plant traits. The Environmental segment offers non-agricultural pest and weed control products. The MaterialScience subgroup develops, manufactures and distributes high-performance products in the areas of polyurethanes, polycarbonates, coating and adhesive raw materials, and functional films. It consists of the Polyurethanes, Polycarbonates, and Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties business units, and the Industrial Operations area. The firm's subgroups are supported by the Business Services, Technology Services and Currenta service companies. The company was founded by Friedrich Bayer and Johann Friedrich Westkott on August 1, 1863 and is headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany.

Dr. Marijn Dekkers, Chairman
Dr. Marijn Dekkers has been chairman of Bayer AG’s Group Board of Management since October 1, 2010.
Born on September 22, 1957 in the Dutch city of Tilburg, Dekkers studied chemistry and chemical engineering. He began his professional career in 1985 as a scientist at the corporate research center of General Electric in the United States, gaining experience in various units of the company before joining AlliedSignal (subsequently Honeywell International Inc.) in 1995.
In 2000 Dekkers became Chief Operating Officer of Thermo Electron Corporation, the world’s leading manufacturer of laboratory instruments (later renamed Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. following the acquisition of laboratory supplier Fisher Scientific).
As of 2002 he served as this company’s President and CEO. After 25 years of his career spent in the United States he joined Bayer on January 1, 2010.
Dekkers is a member of the Board of Directors of General Electric in the United States. He is Vice President of the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI), Frankfurt, and member of the Executive Committee of the Federation of German Industry (BDI), Berlin. Dekkers is also a member of the Business Council and the Business Roundtable, two U.S.-based associations of business leaders and CEOs of leading U.S. companies.
Marin Dekkers is married and has three daughters. He holds both Dutch and U.S. citizenship.
Werner Baumann, Chief Financial Officer
Werner Baumann is the member of the Bayer AG Board of Management responsible for Finance (Chief Financial Officer) and for the Europe region.
Werner Baumann was born on October 6, 1962, in Krefeld, Germany. After studying economics at RWTH Aachen University and the University of Cologne, he joined Bayer AG in 1988. His first duties were in the Corporate Finance Department in Leverkusen. In 1991 he transferred to Bayer Hispania Comercial in Barcelona, Spain, to take up a position as controller, becoming assistant to the managing director in 1995.
A year later, Baumann moved to Bayer Corporation in Tarrytown, New York, latterly heading up the global Business Planning and Administration organization of the Diagnostics Business Group.
In July 2002, Baumann returned to Germany to become a member of the Executive Committee and Head of Central Administration & Organization at Bayer HealthCare. In October 2003 he was appointed a member of the Board of Management of the newly formed subgroup Bayer HealthCare AG, also serving as the company’s Labor Director. As a member of the Board of Management and Labor Director of Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals, Berlin, Germany, from 2006 through September 2009, he actively participated in this company’s integration into the subgroup. He was appointed to the Board of Management of Bayer AG effective January 1, 2010.
Werner Baumann is married and has four children.
Dr. Richard Pott, Labor Director
Dr. Richard Pott has been a member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG since May 1, 2002. He is responsible for Strategy and Human Resources and is also the company’s Labor Director. In addition he represents the Americas, Africa and Middle East regions.
Dr. Pott was born on May 11, 1953 in Leverkusen-Opladen. Having obtained a doctorate in physics at the University of Cologne, he joined Bayer’s Central Research Division in Uerdingen in 1984. In 1987 he transferred to the Corporate Staff Division, where he worked as an organizational consultant in the Corporate Organization Department until taking up a post as strategic consultant in the Strategic Planning Department in 1989. Three years later Dr. Pott was appointed head of Strategic Planning. On May 1, 1997 he was made head of the Corporate Planning and Controlling Division, before becoming General Manager of Bayer AG’s Specialty Products Business Group on July 1, 1999.
Dr. Pott is married and has three children.
