Sir Michael Rake, Chairman
Sir Michael Rake is Chairman of BT Group plc. He is Chairman of easyJet plc, as well as a non-executive director of Barclays plc, McGraw-Hill Inc. He is also chairman of the private equity oversight group the Guidelines Monitoring Committee. He was the first Chairman of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills from 2007 to 2010. He was a member of the National Security Forum for 2009/2010. From May 2002 to September 2007 Sir Michael Rake was Chairman of KPMG International. Prior to his appointment as Chairman of KPMG International he was Chairman of KPMG in Europe and Senior Partner of KPMG in the UK. He joined KPMG in 1974 and worked in Continental Europe before transferring to the Middle East to run the practice for three years in 1986. He transferred to London in 1989, became a member of the UK Board in 1991, and was elected UK Senior Partner in 1998. Mike is also a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Group, Vice President and Chairman of Governors of Wellington College, a Vice President of the RNIB, a member of the Board of the TransAtlantic Business Dialogue, a Trustee of the Prince of Wales’ Charitable Foundation, a member of the Advisory Council for Business for New Europe, Senior Adviser for Chatham House, a member of the WEF International Business Council and on the Global Advisory Board of the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation. Mike is also a William Pitt Fellow at Pembroke College, Cambridge. Mike was Chairman of Business in the Community from 2004-2007 and a member of the board of the Prince of Wales International Business Leaders Forum from 1998 to 2007. Mike is married with four children. He is 64 years old.
Ian Livingston, Chief Executive Officer
Ian Livingston was appointed chief executive of BT Group on June 1st 2008. Previously, he was chief executive of BT Retail, a position he held from February 2005. Prior to this, Ian was group finance director for BT Group from April 2002. Before joining BT, Ian was group finance director of the Dixons Group from 1997. He joined Dixons in 1991 and his career with the electrical retailer spanned a number of operational and financial roles, both in the UK and overseas. Earlier in his career Ian worked for 3i Group and the Bank of America International. He was previously a director of Hilton Group plc (now Ladbrokes plc) and also a director of Freeserve from its inception. Ian is also a non-executive director and Chairman of the audit committee of Celtic plc. He holds a BA in economics from Manchester University and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1987. He is 47 years old.
Tony Chanmugam, Group Finance Director
Tony was appointed Group Finance Director of BT Group on 1 December 2008 when he also joined the BT Group Board. In his career at BT, Tony has established a strong reputation for cost transformation, most recently holding two senior positions in BT Retail, as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and as Managing Director of BT Enterprises (a division within BT Retail which consists of six stand-alone businesses: BT Conferencing, Redcare, Directories, Payphones, DABS and BT Expedite). Prior to joining BT Retail, he was CFO and then jointly CFO and COO for BT Global Solutions, a business serving multinational organisation in more than 100 countries. During this six year period the business grew from £500M to circa £3 billion revenue. He is a Chartered Management Accountant. Outside work he is a sports enthusiast and played cricket at a senior amateur level. He is now resigned to playing golf but still hasn’t achieved his ambition of a single figure golf handicap. He is married and lives in Hertfordshire. He is 58 years old.
