Laurence D. Fink, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Laurence D. Fink, Director since 1999, is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BlackRock since its formation in 1998 and of BlackRock’s predecessor entities since 1988. Mr. Fink is also Chairman of the Executive and Leadership Committees, Chair of Corporate Council, and Co-Chair of the Global Client committee.
Prior to founding BlackRock in 1988, Mr. Fink was a member of the Management Committee and a Managing Director of The First Boston Corporation. Mr. Fink joined First Boston in 1976 and quickly became one of the first mortgage-backed securities traders on Wall Street. During his tenure at First Boston, Mr. Fink was co-head of the Taxable Fixed Income Division, which was responsible for trading and distribution of all government, mortgage and corporate securities. Mr. Fink also started the Financial Futures and Options Department and headed the Mortgage and Real Estate Products Group.
Robert S. Kapito, President
Robert S. Kapito, President and a Director of BlackRock, is a member of BlackRock's Global Executive Committee, Chairman of the Global Operating Committee, and Chairman of the Americas Executive Committee. He is responsible for day-to-day oversight of all BlackRock's key operating units including Portfolio Management, Alternative Investment, Global Client Group, Risk & Quantitative Analysis and BlackRock Solutions. Mr. Kapito is also a Director of iShares Inc.
Prior to assuming his current responsibilities in 2007, Mr. Kapito served as Head of BlackRock's Portfolio Management Group. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing all portfolio management within BlackRock, including the Fixed Income, Equity, Liquidity, and Alternative Investment Groups. Prior to founding BlackRock in 1988, Mr. Kapito was a Vice President in the Mortgage Products Group at The First Boston Corporation. Mr. Kapito joined First Boston in 1979 in the Public Finance Department. Mr. Kapito left First Boston to complete his MBA degree and returned to the firm in 1983 in the Mortgage Products Group. In 1982, Mr. Kapito worked as a strategic consultant with Bain & Co. and with two private companies in Europe.
Mr. Kapito serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania and the Harvard Business School Board of Dean's Advisors. He is also President of the Board of Directors for the Hope & Heroes Children's Cancer Fund and President of the Board of Directors for Periwinkle Theatre for Youth, a national non-profit arts-in-education organization. Mr. Kapito is the recipient of the 2009 Joseph Wharton Leadership Award, the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation's 2010 Semper Fidelis Award and is a frequent public speaker on best practices in investment management. Mr. Kapito earned a BS degree in economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1979, and an MBA degree from Harvard Business School in 1983.
Charles S. Hallac, Senior Managing Director - Chief Operating Officer
Charles S. Hallac (age 47), Senior Managing Director, has been Chief Operating Officer of BlackRock since 2010. Mr. Hallac is also a member of the Global Executive Committee of BlackRock. Previously, Mr. Hallac was a Managing Director and Head of BlackRock Solutions. Mr. Hallac has been with BlackRock or its predecessor entities since 1988.
