Georgia Power is engaged in the generation and purchase of electricity and the transmission, distribution, and sale of such electricity within the state of Georgia at retail in communities, including Athens, Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, Rome, and Savannah, as well as in rural areas, and at wholesale to various electric membership corporations. Gulf Power is engaged in the generation and purchase of electricity and the transmission, distribution, and sale of such electricity at retail in communities within the northwestern portion of Florida, including Pensacola, Panama City, and Fort Walton Beach, as well as in rural areas, and at wholesale to a non-affiliated utility and a municipality. Mississippi Power is engaged in the generation and purchase of electricity and the transmission, distribution, and sale of such electricity in southeastern Mississippi, at retail in communities, including Biloxi, Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Laurel, Meridian, and Pascagoula, as well as in rural areas, and at wholesale to a municipality, distribution cooperative associations, and a generating and transmitting cooperative. Southern was founded on November 9, 1945 and is headquartered in Atlanta, GA.

Southern Co.'s Tom Fanning Discusses Historic Approval of License to Build, Operate Two New Reactors

Thomas A. Fanning, Chief Executive Officer
Thomas A. "Tom" Fanning is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Southern Company, one of America's largest producers of electricity. Elected by the board of directors in July 2010, Fanning became president of Southern Company in August 2010 and assumed the additional responsibilities of CEO and chairman in December 2010. Fanning has worked for Southern Company for more than 30 years and has held 15 different positions in eight different business units, including numerous officer positions with a variety of Southern Company subsidiaries in the areas of finance, strategy, international business development and technology. Most recently, Fanning served as chief operating officer, where he was responsible for Southern Company's generation and transmission, engineering and construction services, research and environmental affairs, system planning and the company's competitive generation business units. Fanning was also responsible for leading Southern Company's efforts on business strategy and served as a director of Southern Nuclear, Southern Company's nuclear plant operating company. Fanning previously was the company's chief financial officer, where he was responsible for accounting, finance, tax, investor relations, treasury and risk management functions. In this role, he also served as the chief risk officer and had responsibility for corporate strategy as well. Prior to assuming the role of chief financial officer, Fanning was president and CEO of Gulf Power. While at Gulf Power, Fanning was active in the state arena. He worked closely with Governor Jeb Bush to develop state government policy, served on the Governor's Transition Policy Team and in 2003 was appointed by Governor Bush to co-chair the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Advisory Committee. Fanning serves on the Georgia Tech College of Management Advisory Board and the Georgia Tech Foundation Board of Trustees. He is also a member of the Business Roundtable. Fanning earned bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial management from Georgia Tech. His executive education includes programs at the International Institute for Management Development in Lausanne, Switzerland, the Harvard University School of Business and the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business. A resident of Atlanta for more than 39 years, Fanning was born in Morristown, New Jersey.
Stephen Kuczynski, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Southern Nuclea
Stephen Kuczynski is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern Nuclear Operating Company. In this role, he is responsible for all operations of Southern Company’s six nuclear reactors. He is also responsible for new nuclear development initiatives, including the construction of Plant Vogtle Units 3 and 4 near Augusta, Ga. He was elected Chairman, President and CEO, effective July 11, 2011. Kuczynski has more than 27 years of experience in the nuclear industry. Most recently he was the Senior Vice President of Exelon Nuclear’s Midwest Operations. In that role, Kuczynski had oversight of all operational functions for Exelon Nuclear’s six Illinois operating facilities and 11 reactors. Prior to that role, Kuczynski was the Senior Vice President of Operations Support in which he was responsible for the performance of Outage Services, Training, Emergency Preparedness, Security, Chemistry, Radiation Protection, Operations, Maintenance, Work Control and Industrial Safety for the Exelon Nuclear fleet. Previously, Kuczynski worked at Byron Station. He joined the Byron team in 1999 and held manager positions in Nuclear Oversight and Maintenance before becoming Plant Manager in 2001. He was named Byron Site Vice President in 2003. Kuczynski also worked at Exelon’s Dresden Station from 1984-99. During that time, he played an integral part in the successful improvement effort to have the site removed from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) Watchlist. Kuczynski holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and earned a Senior Reactor Operator (SRO) License from the NRC.
Mark A. Crosswhite, Chief Operating Officer
As chief operating officer, Mark Crosswhite is responsible for Southern Company's operations organization, which includes generation, transmission, engineering and construction services, system planning, research and environmental affairs, Southern Power and Southern Wholesale Energy. Crosswhite began his career with Southern Company in 2004 as senior vice president and general counsel for Southern Company's generation organization. He later served as vice president and general counsel for Alabama Power before being named executive vice president of external affairs for Alabama Power. Crosswhite was elected president and chief executive officer at Gulf Power in 2010. Prior to joining Southern Company, Crosswhite was a partner in the law firm of Balch & Bingham LLP in Birmingham, Ala., where he practiced in the energy section for 17 years. Crosswhite earned a bachelor's degree in 1984 from the University of Alabama at Huntsville, where he graduated magna cum laude. He earned a juris doctor degree in 1987 from the University Of Alabama School Of Law.
