Brian Moynihan, Chief Executive Officer
Brian T. Moynihan is the chief executive officer of Bank of America. He was elected to his role by the board of directors on December 16, 2009, and took office on January 1, 2010. Moynihan also is a member of the Bank of America board of directors.
Moynihan leads one of the world’s largest financial institutions. Bank of America serves consumers, businesses of all sizes and institutional investors with a full range of banking, investing, asset management and other financial and risk management products and services. The company provides unmatched convenience in the United States, serving approximately 57 million consumer and small business relationships with approximately 5,700 retail banking offices and approximately 17,250 ATMs and award-winning online banking with 30 million active users.
Bank of America is among the world’s leading wealth management companies and is a global leader in corporate and investment banking and trading across a broad range of asset classes serving corporations, governments, institutions and individuals around the world. Bank of America offers industry-leading support to approximately 4 million small business owners through a suite of innovative, easy-to-use online products and services. The company serves corporate, institutional and individual clients through operations in more than 40 countries.
Under Moynihan’s leadership, Bank of America is building on its leadership position in community development, philanthropy and environmental initiatives. Moynihan joined Bank of America in 2004 following the company’s merger with FleetBoston Financial. In 2010, he was elected a trustee of the Corporation of Brown University.
Gary G. Lynch, Global Chief of Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory Relations
Gary G. Lynch is global chief of Legal, Compliance, and Regulatory Relations for Bank of America, responsible for overseeing the company’s legal and compliance functions and its relationships with regulators and law enforcement authorities around the world.
Based in New York, Lynch is also a member of the bank’s executive management team.
Lynch joined Bank of America from Morgan Stanley, where he was vice chairman of the firm based in London. Joining Morgan Stanley in 2005, he also served as their chief legal officer. Lynch also held senior leadership positions at Credit Suisse First Boston including global general counsel and executive vice chairman. Prior to that, he was a partner of Davis Polk & Wardwell where he represented and advised financial institutions and other clients. Most notably, Lynch served as the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission’s chief of the enforcement division from 1985 to 1989.
Lynch currently sits on the board of trustees of the Brooklyn Academy of Music
Catherine P. Bessant, Global Technology and Operations Executive
Catherine P. Bessant is Global Technology and Operations executive at Bank of America and is a member of the company’s executive management team. She is responsible for delivering end-to-end technology and operations across the company. She is also responsible for managing the bank’s global real estate portfolio and its relationships with vendors and suppliers. Her organization operates in 35 countries and employs more than 109,000 employees and contractors worldwide. Bessant also chairs Bank of America’s Environmental Council and oversees the company’s 10-year, $20 billion environmental initiative to address global climate change.
Previously, Bessant was president of Global Corporate Banking, a division of Global Banking and Markets. The Corporate Banking group has offices in 26 countries around the world. In integration with Bank of America Merrill Lynch Investment Banking, Corporate Banking delivers corporate finance, treasury, debt and risk management products to 80 percent of Global Fortune 500 and 99 percent of U.S. Fortune 500 corporations, along with multinational companies, financial institutions and governments. Prior to her role in Global Corporate Banking, Bessant was president of the bank’s Global Treasury Services and Global Product Solutions groups.
Bessant joined Bank of America as a corporate banker in Texas in 1982, and later was president of Consumer Real Estate and Community Development Banking, leading mortgage lending and operations nationwide, as well as the full complement of Bank of America community development activities.
She served as president of Bank of America, Florida, managing commercial, consumer, small business and mass affluent segments, including more than 800 banking centers and $46 billion in total assets. Subsequently, as national Small Business Segment executive, Bessant led a group serving more than 2 million small business customers in the U.S.
Bessant also was chief marketing officer for Bank of America, where she was responsible for worldwide marketing, public policy and charitable giving.
Bessant is an active member of industry-related, civic and cultural institutions. She chairs the board of directors of Foundation For The Carolinas. She is a member of the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, Inc. and the Private Export Funding Corporation. Bessant is a member of the advisory committee of the Export-Import Bank of the United States and the NASCAR Hall of Fame. She is a former chair of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce and co-chair of the Citizens’ Task Force on Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
