HDFC Bank Ltd. is a banking company engaged in providing a wide range of banking and financial services including commercial banking and treasury operations. It provides financial services to upper and middle income individuals and corporations in India. The company has two subsidiaries: HDFC Securities Ltd. and HDB Financial Services Ltd., HDFC Securities Ltd. is primarily in the business of providing brokerage services through the internet and other channels with a focus to emerge as a full-fledged financial services provider offers a financial services along with the core broking product. HDB Financial Services Ltd. is a non-deposit taking non-bank finance company typically underserviced by the larger commercial banks, and thus create a profitable niche for the company to operate. The bank operates its business through three segments: Retail Banking, Wholesale Banking and Treasury Services. The Retail Banking segment serves retail customers through a branch network and other delivery channels. This segment raises deposits from customers and makes loans and provides advisory services to customers. The Bank's retail banking loan products also include loans to small and medium enterprises for commercial vehicles, construction equipment and other business purposes. The Wholesale Banking segment provides loans and transaction services to corporate customers. It provides loans to corporate customers, investment for credit substitutes, foreign exchange, transaction services and derivative transactions for wholesale banking customers. The Treasury Services segment undertakes trading operations on the proprietary account includes investments in government securities, foreign exchange operations and derivatives trading both on the proprietary account and customer flows and borrowings. The company was founded in August 1994 and is headquartered in Mumbai, India.
