Company Description

Centrica Plc is an integrated energy company operating in the UK and North America. The company operates through four business segments: British Gas, Centrica Energy, Centrica Storage and Direct Energy. The British Gas segment provides residential services, including gas and electricity supply, installation, repair and maintenance of domestic central heating, plumbing and drains, maintenance/breakdown service of gas and kitchen appliances; and also provides energy related services to business customers in the United Kingdom. The Centrica Energy segment operations include production, processing, trading and optimization of gas and oil, and the development of new fields to grow reserves. This segment also includes generation, trading and optimization of power from thermal, nuclear and wind sources. The Centrica Storage segment Centrica Storage operates the Rough offshore gas storage facilities. The Direct Energy segment includes the gas and electricity supply to the residential and business customers in North America. This segment's services including installation and maintenance of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, water heaters and the provision of breakdown services. Centrica was founded on February 17, 1997 and is headquartered in Windsor, the United Kingdom.

Sam Laidlaw, Chief Executive Officer

Sam joined Centrica as Chief Executive in July 2006. He is Chairman of the Executive Committee and the Disclosure Committee. In January 2008, he was appointed a non-executive director of HSBC Holdings plc and in December 2010 he was appointed as the lead non-executive director on the board of the Department for Transport. He is also a member of the UK Prime Minister's Business Advisory Group. Previously he was executive vice president of the Chevron Corporation, chief executive officer at Enterprise Oil and president and chief operating officer at Amerada Hess. He is a trustee of the medical charity RAFT.

Nick Luff, Group Finance Director

Nick Luff joined Centrica as Group Finance Director in March 2007. He was previously chief financial officer of The Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) and has held a number of other senior financial roles at P&O, having qualified as a chartered accountant at KPMG. Until December 2010 he was a non-executive director of QinetiQ Group plc.

Sir Roger Carr, Chairman

Sir Roger joined the Board as a Non-Executive Director in 2001. He was appointed Chairman of the Board in May 2004 and is Chairman of the Nominations Committee. During 2011, he was appointed president of the CBI and a member of the UK Prime Minister's Business Advisory Group. He remains deputy chairman and senior independent director of the Court of the Bank of England. He is also a senior adviser to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and a trustee of the Landau Forte Charitable Trust. He has previously held a number of senior appointments including chairman of Mitchells & Butlers plc and Cadbury plc. He is a fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of the Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce and a visiting fellow to the Said Business School, Oxford. Throughout his career he has served on a number of external committees including the Higgs Committee on Corporate Governance and Business for New Europe.
