Corporate History

A.G. Lafley, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer
Lafley previously served as P&G’s President & CEO from 2000 to 2009. During this time, the Company more than doubled sales and grew its portfolio of billion-dollar brands from 10 to 23 with a focus on consumer-driven innovation and consistent, reliable, sustainable growth. The Company’s market capitalization has made P&G among the 10 most valuable companies in the world.
Ironically, A.G. never intended to pursue a career in business. He grew up in Keene, New Hampshire, and graduated from Hamilton College with a plan to become a teacher and basketball coach. He took a break to study history, politics, art, cinema, and drama in Paris, returning to the U.S. in 1969 to enter a Ph.D. program at the University of Virginia. Then, his plans changed.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1970 where he oversaw all the retail and service operations for 10,000 Navy and Marine corps and their families in Japan. It was his first general manager job, and he was hooked.
After the Navy, A.G. graduated from Harvard Business School and joined P&G in 1977. Over the next 15 years, he moved up through the Company’s laundry and cleaning businesses, delivering record results and leading organizations responsible for some of P&G’s biggest innovations, including Liquid Tide and Tide with Bleach, that continue to fuel P&G’s growth yet today.
He went back to Japan in 1994, with responsibility for all of P&G’s operations in Asia. He laid the foundation for a return to growth in Japan and helped build P&G’s business in China from less than $90 million to nearly $1 billion in sales by the time he left Asia. In 1999, he ran P&G’s fast-growing Beauty business, along with the Company’s business in North America—its largest single market.
In 2000, A.G. was elected President and Chief Executive of P&G. In the nine years that followed, annual organic sales grew—on average— 5%, core earnings-per-share grew 12% and free cash flow productivity increased 111%. He retired from P&G in early 2010 and served as a senior advisor at Clayton, Dubilier & Rice until returning to P&G this year. A.G. Lafley

Dimitri Panayotopoulos, Vice Chairman of Procter & Gamble Global Business Units
Dimitri, a global business leader with vast international experience, is Vice Chairman of Procter & Gamble Global Business Units. In his current role, Dimitri is responsible for P&G's total sales and profits. He oversees all of P&G's brands, including Tide, Ariel, Olay, Pampers, Pantene, CoverGirl, Gillette, Duracell, Dawn, Bounty, Always, Braun, Charmin, Iams and Prilosec and many more. As a career P&G executive, Dimitri has built a reputation as an in-touch leader who works closely with his teams and retail customers to grow businesses globally through a deep belief in the power of collaboration and a deep passion for winning. Born in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, Dimitri prides himself on his Greek-African heritage and the adventurous spirit of his grandparents, who left Greece for Tanzania to build and work their dreams for a better life. His first languages are Greek and Swahili, but he is also fluent in English, French, and German which he uses naturally in his travels around the world to customer stores, consumer homes, technical centers and manufacturing facilities. Dimitri began his career with P&G in 1977 as a Salesman in the United Kingdom, where his natural ease to engage directly with people helped propel him to Sales Manager in Switzerland and then various advertising and brand management positions in Germany. It was his first country assignments in Egypt (Country Manager and General Manager) and China (General Manager, Regional Vice President and President) where his passion for building and expanding sustained unified brands, businesses and organizations in third-world environments was truly realized. His eight-year tenure in China grew the business from disjointed franchises and joint ventures to a wholly owned business. During these years, P&G grew to be the leader in Beauty in China through flagship brands like Olay, Head & Shoulders, Pantene, Rejoice, SKII and Safeguard. For his efforts in China, Dimitri received the Friendship Award in 1999, China's highest award for foreign experts who have made outstanding contributions to China's economic and social programs. In 2001, Dimitri left China to lead the market development organization known as CEEMEA or Central Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, which consists of over 110 different countries. This was the year that the Global Business Units were established in CEEMEA. Dimitri brought his China experience in Beauty to CEEMEA, establishing P&G Beauty as a priority and growth-driver for the region. As Group President of Global Fabric Care in 2004, Dimitri increased the pace of innovation and scale and established Fabric Care as "The Heartbeat of P&G" while leading the growth of Downy, Lenor and Gain to become billion-dollar brands. While in his last role as Vice Chair Global Household Care, he drove the business unit to become the fastest-growing business within P&G by leveraging business strengths globally, driving scale and fast-tracking innovation across all categories and markets. Currently as Vice Chairman, Global Business Units, Dimitri is continuing to focus the organization on breakthrough innovation and big ideas, speed to market and scale across all of the businesses to drive growth. He is committed to unifying people with a hands-on passion and purpose towards the bigger goal, all the while remembering his commitment to the unique individual, whether he or she is a Consumer, Customer or Employee.
