Steel Dynamics, Inc. is a domestic steel producer and metals recycler in the U.S. It produces a wide array of steel - beams, bars, steel sheet, and more. Its New Millennium Building Systems unit manufactures fabricated steel building components. The company, through its subsidiary, OmniSource Corp. collects, processes, and markets recycled metals, including steel scrap used to produce new steel. The company operates its business through the following segments: Steel Operations, Metals Recycling & Ferrous Resources Operations, and Steel Fabrication Operations. The Steel Operations segment consist of its electric-arc furnace mini-mills, producing steel from steel scrap, utilizing continuous casting, automated rolling mills, and various downstream finishing facilities. The Metals Recycling & Ferrous Resources Operations segment primarily includes its metals recycling operations, liquid pig iron production facility, and Minnesota iron operations. Its Metals Recycling operations represent metals sourcing and processing operations and are the most significant source of income in this segment. Its metals recycling operations sell ferrous metals to steel mills and foundries, and nonferrous metals, such as copper, brass, aluminum and stainless steel to ingot manufacturers, copper refineries and mills, smelters, and specialty mills. The Steel Fabrication Operations segment includes six New Millennium Building Systems plants, which fabricate steel joists, trusses, girders, and decking used within the non-residential construction industry. Steel Dynamics was founded by Keith E. Busse, Mark D. Millett, Richard P. Teets and John C. Bates in August 1993 and is headquartered in Fort Wayne, IN.
