L'Oréal SA engages in the manufacture and sale of beauty and hair products. It operates through the following segments: Professional Products, Consumer Products, L'Oréal Luxury, and Active Cosmetics. The Professional Products segment manufactures products which are used and sold in hair salons. The Consumer Products segment offers beauty and care products for men and women which are sold in mass market retail channels. The L'Oréal Luxury segment markets high-end skin care and beauty products in selective retail outlets such as department stores, perfumeries, and travel retail. The Active Cosmetics segment offers dermocosmetic skincare products which are sold in pharmacies and specialist sections of drugstores. The company was founded by Eugène Schueller in 1909 and is headquartered in Paris, France.

Jean-Paul Agon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Aged 49, Jean-Paul Agon has spent his whole career within the L’Oréal group, in all its divisions and on several continents.
He joined L’Oréal in 1978. After working as a sales representative for one year, he then took on marketing responsibilities.
He began his international career in 1981, and at the age of 25, became General Manager of L’Oréal in Greece. Five years later, he assumed the role of General Manager of L’ORÉAL PARIS in France, where his product launches included the Studio Line range. In 1989, he became International Managing Director of BIOTHERM, in the Luxury Products Division, and oversaw the strategic repositioning of the brand.
In 1994, Jean-Paul Agon became Managing Director of L’Oréal in Germany.
In 1997, he set up L’Oréal’s Asian zone, taking overall responsibility for all the group’s businesses. He created companies in countries where the group had previously operated through agents, boosting the brands’ rapid growth in this region.
In October 2001, Jean-Paul Agon was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of the group’s largest subsidiary, L’Oréal USA. He played an active part in the global roll-out of the American brands and introduced into the United States international lines such as Fructis by GARNIER. At the same time he strengthened the diversity of the teams by taking key initiatives in this area, which were later applied throughout the group.
Jean-Paul Agon has been the group’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer since July 2005.
Throughout the 27 years he has spent in countries all over the world, Jean-Paul Agon has consistently sought to understand different sensitivities and cultures, and has always attached the highest importance to respecting differences.
Laurent Attal , Executive Vice-President Research and Innovation
Laurent Attal is a Doctor of Medicine with a specialty in dermatology, followed by an MBA from INSEAD. He joined L’Oréal's Active Cosmetics Division in 1986 as a sales representative. He rose quickly to the position of CEO of Vichy in 1994. Four years later, Laurent Attal was named President of the Active Cosmetics division, where he developed the portfolio on an international scale. Active Cosmetics is today the fastest growing division in the L’Oréal Group. In 2002, he added to his duties the management of Galderma, a pharmaceutical laboratory. The same year, he was appointed a member of the company’s Executive Committee. In 2005, he was appointed President & Chief Executive Officer of L’Oréal USA. Since January 2010, he has been Executive Vice-President Research & Innovation.
Jean-Philippe Blanpain, Executive Vice-President Operations
Jean-Philippe Blanpain has an MA in philosophy, a degree in chemical engineering and a doctorate in molecular biology. He joined L’Oréal in 1990 as head of Industrial Chemistry in Belgium. After several operational positions in various plants, he was appointed Technical Director for Europe. He went on to become Head of the “Production and Logistics” Department, while also managing technical coordination for Asia and South America. In October 2005, he left for the U.S. as Technical Director for North America. In June 2007, he was appointed Executive Vice-President Operations and became a member of the Group Executive Committee.
