Iron Mountain, Inc. provides information storage and management services that help organizations lower the costs, risks and inefficiencies of managing their physical and digital data. The company offers comprehensive records management services, data protection and recovery services and information destruction services, along with the expertise and experience to address complex storage and information management challenges such as rising storage rental costs, and increased litigation, regulatory compliance and disaster recovery requirements. It operates its business through three segments: North American Business, International Business, and Corporate. The North American Business segment offers information management services throughout the United States and Canada, including the storage of paper documents, as well as other media such as microfilm and microfiche, master audio and videotapes, film, X-rays and blueprints, including healthcare information services, vital records services, courier operations, and the collection, handling and disposal of sensitive documents for corporate customers; the storage and rotation of backup computer media as part of corporate disaster recovery plans, including service and courier operations; information destruction services; the scanning, imaging and document conversion services of active and inactive records; the storage, assembly, and detailed reporting of customer marketing literature and delivery to sales offices, trade shows and prospective customers sites based on current and prospective customer orders; and technology escrow services that protect and manage source code. The International Business segment offers information management services throughout Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific, including hard copy, data Protection, destruction and document Management Solutions. Its European operations provide services throughout Europe and destruction services are primarily provided in the United Kingdom and Ireland; Latin America operations offer services throughout Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru; Asia Pacific operations offers services throughout Australia, with hard copy and data protection services also provided in certain cities in India, Singapore, Hong Kong-SAR and China. The Corporate segment consists of costs related to executive and staff functions, including finance, human resources and information technology, which benefit the enterprise as a whole. This segment also includes stock-based employee compensation expense associated with all Employee Stock-Based Awards. The company was founded by Herman K. Knaust in 1951 and is headquartered in Boston, MA.
