ING Groep NV provides banking, investments, life and non-life insurance, and retirement and asset management services to individuals, families, small businesses, large corporations, institutions, and governments. It operates through the following business segments: Retail Netherlands, Retail Belgium, Retail Germany, Retail Rest of World, Commercial Banking, Netherlands life, Netherlands Non-Life, Insurance Europe, Japan Life, Investment Management, Other and Japan Closed Block VA. The Retail Netherlands provides commercial, retail, and private banking activities, life and non-life insurance products, and the sale of mortgages through intermediaries in the Netherlands. The Retail Belgium segment provides banking, life and non-life insurance, and asset management products and services to meet the needs of individuals, families, companies, and institutions through a network of local head offices, branch, and direct banking channels in Belgium. The Retail Germany segment provides retail and private banking, which offers current and savings accounts, mortgages and other customer lending. The Retail Rest of World segment is engaged in the retail banking activities in the rest of the world, including the SME and mid-corporate segments in specific countries. The Commercial Banking segment offers core banking services such as lending, payments, and cash management to corporate clients, excluding the real estate sector. The Netherlands Life segment provides group life and individual life insurance products. The Netherlands Non-Life segment provides non-life insurance, which includes disability and accident, fire, motor and transport insurance. The Insurance Europe segment provides life insurance, pension products and to a small extent non-life insurance and retirement services in Central and Rest of Europe. The Japan Life segment primarily offers a range of Corporate Owned Life Insurance products to SMEs and owners and employees of SMEs through independent agents and banc assurance. The Investment Management segment offers a wide variety of actively managed investment products and advisory services to retail and institutional customers in all major asset classes and investment styles. The Other segment comprises the business of Nationale-Nederlanden Bank and ING Re and the holding results. Nationale-Nederlanden Bank offers a range of banking products, especially mortgages and savings, to retail customers in the Netherlands. In addition, it coordinates the distribution of Nationale-Nederlanden's individual life and retail non-life insurance products in the Netherlands to enable a comprehensive product offering to retail customers in the Netherlands. The Japan Closed Block VA segment primarily consists of single premium variable annuities. This segment comprises NN Group's closed-block single premium variable annuity (SPVA) individual life insurance portfolio in Japan. The company was founded on January 21, 1991 and is headquartered in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Jan H.M. Hommen, CEO
Jan Hommen was appointed to the Supervisory Board of ING Group as of 1 June 2005 and became chairman of the Supervisory Board in January 2008. Until 1 May 2005, he was vice-chairman and CFO of Koninklijke Philips Electronics. From 1975 to 1997, he worked for Alcoa Inc. From 1978, he worked at Alcoa’s head office in the United States, becoming CFO in 1991.
On 26 January 2009, Jan Hommen was nominated for appointment to the Executive Board by the Supervisory Board. This nomination was adopted by the General Meeting of April 2009.
Jan Hommen is also chairman of the Management Boards Banking and Insurance.
