Nexen, Inc. is an upstream oil and gas company. The company operates through three operating segments: Conventional Oil and Gas, Oil Sands and Shale Gas. The Conventional Oil and Gas segment develops and produces crude oil and natural gas from conventional sources around the world. The Oil Sands segment develops and produces synthetic crude oil from the Athabasca oil sands in northern Alberta. The Shale Gas segment produces unconventional gas from shale formations in northeastern British Columbia. The company was founded on July 12, 1971 and is headquartered in Calgary, Canada.
