The world currently had installed electricity capacity of about 4 000 GW and given the expected strong growth in demand for electricity, this should be doubled by 2030, power utility Électricité de France (EDF) senior executive vice-president for international operations Gerard Wolf told a conference on Tuesday.

Henri Proglio, Chairman and CEO
Born on 29 June 1949 in Antibes (France), Henri Proglio is a graduate of the École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC). He joined Compagnie Générale des Eaux in 1972 and was appointed Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Compagnie Générales d'Entreprises Automobiles (CGEA) in 1990. In 1999, he was appointed Vice President of Vivendi, Manager of Compagnie Générale des Eaux and Chief Executive Officer of Vivendi Water. He became Chairman of the Management Board of Veolia Environnement in 2000, then Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from 2003 to November 2009. Henri Proglio has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of EDF since 25 November 2009. He was appointed director of EDF, which was then a state-owned industrial and commercial institution (établissement public industriel et commercial - EPIC), in September 2004. Within the EDF group, he is Chairman of the Boards of Directors of EDF Energy Holdings and Transalpina di Energia. He is a director of EDF Énergies Nouvelles, EDF International (SAS) and Edison. He is also Chairman of the EDF Foundation and the Electra association. In addition, he is director of CNP Assurances, Dassault Aviation, Fomento di Contrucciones y Contratas, Natixis, Veolia Environnement and Veolia Propreté, and member of the Supervisory Board of Veolia Eau. He is deputy Chairman of the Strategic Nuclear Energy Committee, member of the French Atomic Energy Committee, the High Committee for Transparency and Information on Nuclear Safety, the French National Committee on Sectors of Vital Importance and director of the Fondation Européenne pour les Énergies de Demain.
Thomas Piquemal, Group Senior Executive Vice President, Finance
A graduate of the "Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Economiques et Commerciales" (ESSEC – College for Economics and Business). Thomas Piquemal started his career in 1991 with audit firm Arthur Andersen. In 1995, he joined the Mergers and Acquisitions Department of the bank Lazard Frères. In this context, he was involved in the major financial and strategic transactions of Veolia, in particular the company's capital restructuring and the EDF/Dalkia partnership. In 2008, he took over responsibility in London for the strategic partnership signed between Lazard and the American investment fund Apollo. In January 2009, Thomas Piquemal joined Veolia Environnement as Senior Executive Vice President in charge of Finance and joined the Group’s Executive Committee. In this post he devoted his efforts to debt reduction, in particular through an asset disposal programme. In addition, in conjunction with the Caisse des Dépôts (French bank for official deposits) he managed the merger of their respective subsidiary companies, Transdev and Veolia Transport, to create a world leader in collective passenger transport and sustainable mobility. In 2008, together with three-time world boxing champion Christophe Tiozzo, Thomas Piquemal founded the “Académie Christophe Tiozzo”, whose mission is to promote the social and professional integration of young people from deprived areas.
Hervé Machenaud, Group Senior Executive Vice President, Generation
A former student of the Ecole Polytechnique technical school (1968), engineer of the “Ecole des Ponts et Chaussées” (Structural Engineering School) and a graduate of the “Institut d’Etudes Politiques” (Institute of Political Studies) in Paris. Hervé Machenaud started his career as Director of the Urban Planning Division at the Ivory Coast Ministry of Planning in 1973, then undertook a variety of assignments on the African continent for the World Bank before returning to France in 1978 as Structural Engineer for the Department of Ille-et-Vilaine. Hervé Machenaud joined the EDF Group in 1982 as Assistant Director of Development at the Paluel Nuclear Plant. From 1984 to 1989, he took charge of the Group’s expansion into China, in particular the construction and commissioning of the Daya Bay Nuclear plant. Between 1990 and 1995, Hervé Machenaud held the post of Director of the National Nuclear Infrastructure Centre, responsible for the Group’s French and international nuclear programmes. In this context, he steered the design, construction and commissioning of the N4 series (nuclear plants at Chooz and Civeaux), the world’s most advanced reactors, equipped with a computer-assisted control system which remains unique. From 1995 to 1998, he was EDF’s Assistant Director of Infrastructure, responsible for Resources, Management and International Development. From 1998 to 2002, he filled the role of Head of Generation and Transmission of EDF, then Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Industry Branch. From 2002 to 2009, he was based in Beijing as Executive Vice President, Asia, whose role is to enhance the Group’s industrial expertise, particularly nuclear, and to ensure it has access to technological innovations in China, Japan, India and in the Great Mekong region. In particular, he spearheaded the joint venture projects in the fields of nuclear (Taishan), thermal (Sanmenxia), hydraulic and wind generation in China, Vietnam (the Phu My plant) and Laos (the Nam Theun barrage).
